Privacy Policy

48Guess is an independent, fan-made daily trivia game about 48Group (JKT48, AKB48, and related sister groups). It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any official talent agency, record label, or management company. This policy explains what information we collect when you use 48Guess and how we use it.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use 48Guess, we may collect:

• A local device identifier. Even without an account, your browser generates a random ID stored in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device except as part of puzzle requests to our server, and it's only used to make sure each device gets a different daily song and doesn't repeat one until the whole catalog has cycled through — not to identify you personally.
• Account information. If you sign in, we store your email address and a display name. Sign-in is handled by Better Auth via a one-time emailed link ("magic link") or through Google/Apple, depending on which you choose. We never see or store a password.
• Gameplay data. Your personal stats (games played, win rate, streak, guess distribution) are stored only in your browser's local storage. If you sign in and opt in on the Settings page, your scores are also stored on our server so they can appear on the public leaderboard.

How we use this information

We use the information above to run the daily puzzles, keep your stats and streak in sync across devices when you're signed in, calculate and display the leaderboard for players who opted in, and operate basic account features like signing in and deleting your account.

We do not sell your information, and we do not run third-party advertising or ad-tracking on 48Guess.

Third-party services

A few outside services help us run 48Guess:

• Resend — delivers sign-in ("magic link") emails.
• Google / Apple — optional sign-in providers, if you choose to use them.
• Apple's iTunes Search API — provides the short song preview clips, cover art, and Apple Music links used in the Guess the Song mode. No account data is shared with Apple for this.

Cookies & local storage

We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in — nothing else. Your device ID, in-progress puzzle state, and personal stats live in your browser's local storage and stay on your device.

Data retention & deletion

If you have an account, you can change your display name, turn leaderboard visibility on or off, or permanently delete your account and every score associated with it at any time from the Settings page. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. Data stored only in your browser (device ID, local stats) can be cleared by clearing your browser's site data for 48guess.com.

Children's privacy

48Guess is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as 48Guess changes. If we make a material change, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
